ABOUT What is Niigata SAKE Fair?

This is the third annual event produced by Niigata Nesan, an unofficial Niigata PR mascot. A wide variety of alcoholic drinks from Niigata such as sake, wines and beers will be introduced to tourists and sake lovers from inside and outside of Niigata Prefecture. Manufacturers based in Niigata Prefecture will gather to offer sake for tasting and purchase. There will also be stage events and food sales, with the aim of enabling visitors to fully enjoy Niigata Prefecture’s sake.

Access

Shuttle Bus Service: With the cooperation of Ryokan Urashima, we will operate six round-trip shuttle buses (1,000 yen round trip) between Ryotsu Port and the Kitazawa Flotation Plant per day (advance reservations required).

Details of the Niigata SAKE Fair in Sado Island: This year will be the first time the fair will be held on Sado Island. The fair will promote the attractions of Niigata Prefecture and introduce a wide range of excellent alcoholic drinks such as sake from sake breweries and wineries in the prefecture. In addition, the purpose of this fair is to increase publicity for Sado Island’s registration as a World Heritage Site, as well as to attract visitors to the island and to promote sightseeing tours around it. Tastings will be available on a ticket basis (100 yen per ticket). Sake is available from 100 yen per glass, and beer and wine from 500 yen per glass, allowing you to enjoy tastings of the brands you are interested in at reasonable prices. If you purchase additional tickets (1,000 yen or 500 yen) on the day of the fair, you can sample even more alcoholic beverages! At the food booths, you can enjoy snacks and local foods unique to Sado Island. The stage events will feature traditional performing arts of Sado Island and many artists with ties to Niigata.

Note: In case of rain or typhoon, the flying lantern event may be cancelled or rescheduled for a later date.

Details of the Niigata SAKE Fair 2024: Come gather in Furumachi, Niigata City! Let’s toast together! Niigata SAKE Fair 2024 will be held at Furumachi Rufuru Plaza and Furumachi Mall 7 in Furumachi, Chuo-ku, Niigata City on Saturday, October 19 and Sunday, October 20, 2024. Breweries including sake breweries and wineries in Niigata Prefecture will participate in this fair. A stamp rally where visitors can collect stamps to be used as a lottery ticket and food stalls will also be held. There will also be stage events such as talk shows by artists and celebrities.

Details: A special event held at the same time as the Niigata SAKE Fair in Sado Island/Kitazawa Flotation Plant! Let's light up colorful lanterns at the fantastic Kitazawa Flotation Plant. This special event is limited to 200 people (each day).

Free Shuttle Bus Timetable: For the flying lantern event to be held on Sep. 14 and 15, a free shuttle bus service will be operated between Aikawa (Aikawa Gymnasium/Aikawa Branch Office) and the Kitazawa Flotation Plant (no reservation required).

Details: An event to experience Japanese culture for foreigners at Nabedyaya, a national tangible cultural property. While tasting traditional Japanese cuisine, visitors can also have the opportunity to experience the “Ozashiki” entertainment of “Furumachi Geigi,” entertaining visitors with their stylish performances. Sake tasting and sake seminar will also be held at the same time, which can be enjoyed thanks to Niigata’s position as Japan’s number one sake producing region.

Details: Sake tasting where participants can compare the tastes of various Niigata’s sake from Joetsu region, Chuetsu region, Kaetsu region, and Sado Island, as well as a sake seminar will be held. In addition, participants will have a chance to experience the marriage of Niigata’s local cuisine with sake. Niigata’s sake can be experienced for 2 hours with all-you-can-drink service.
